I’ve recently been notified that a journalist has tried to contact a person who had left a comment here.  We know the name of the journalist and the MSM outlet. We’re not going to name them but we’ll say it was a new name to us.

We would respectfully ask that journalists do not attempt to contact people who leave comments on this blog. It is extremely rare that even we contact people who’ve left comments, and then mostly just to explain why we’ve edited a comment.

We would also ask those that leave comments to be very careful about posting personal details on here and elsewhere online.

We really understand why those who were resident in a care home might wish to make contact with other residents with similar experiences but we ask you to be careful. It can put us in an almost impossible position where, on the one hand we don’t want to be seen to stop you having your say but on the other we don’t want you to be exposed to intrusion.

We will continue to delete contact email addresses and telephone numbers that get posted but we need to trust you to take precautions to protect your own privacy.

Many thanks for all your help in this.

Former Radio 1 DJ jailed for 13 years for sexually abusing young boys

Chris Denning

Former Radio 1 DJ Chris Denning of Basildon in Essex has been jailed for 13 year for sexual attacks on 24 boys as young as nine

The 73-year-old, who was arrested in June last year by detectives from Operation Yewtree, had admitted a total of 41 charges over a period of 20 years from 1967 to 1987.

The majority of offences related to victims aged between 9 and 14.

One of the founding disc jockeys at the radio 1 station, the music producer molested children at the height of his stardom before opening a computer shop near his home, which became a magnet for schoolboys.

The paedophile lured them to his shop in Parkstone, Dorset, to look at video games and computers before asking them to do jobs for him.

Using his fame, Denning also…

Ben Fellows Is Charged

images (2)

The first point to make is that Mr Fellows is as entitled to a fair legal process as anyone else and that means not publishing anything that could prejudice a possible future trial.

However,  it does need to be pointed out that there is a great deal of disinformation online about his case.

So, I’m going to stick to the facts.

1) Just over a year ago, 8th Aug 2013, Ben Fellows was arrested for ‘Conspiracy to Pervert the course of Justice’.

2) According to what he himself has written, in early 2014 he left the country and in the process skipped police bail.

3) On his return to the country from Lanzerote yesterday he was arrested and apparently placed in custody until the 29th December when he will appear before a Crown Court.

Those are the facts and anyone who is stupid enough to speculate on this case or repeat some of the false information found online could end up either a) ending up charged themselves for being in ‘contempt of court’, or b) facing a civil case for libel.

Archbishop Of Canterbury Tells Survivor That Paedophile Vicar Will Not Be ‘Defrocked’

download (5)

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has written to a survivor of child sexual abuse (full letter below) to tell her that the clergyman who sexually abused her will remain a clergyman within the Church of England. ‘Reverend’ Guy Bennett was convicted of sexual offences against children in 1999. The ‘Reverend’ Bennett was not convicted for offences committed against the recipient of the letter.

A retired vicar who pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting three 11-year-old girls has been told he faces a jail term at the Old Bailey.

The Rev Guy Bennett, 66, who resigned from St Mary’s parish church, Oxted, Surrey, earlier this year, admitted indecently assaulting the girls between 1976 and 1988.

But on Friday he denied four further offences. One of them dated from last year, but the prosecution said it would not be in the public interest to proceed and they were left to lie on file.

He was remanded on conditional bail until 28 May, when he will be sentenced.

BBC News

This follows a recent interview with Justin Welby with CNN at the Vatican in which the leader of the Anglican Church explained that the abuse by clergymen within the Church of England was historically “considered relatively acceptable” and that the church was now “tightening up the current practice” and that “dodgy’ people from “that nightmare era” would be dealt with.

So, why is Guy Bennett, given his conviction for child sexual abuse, still part of the Church of England communion and a clergyman ?

Untitled

Crockfords

Today, I spoke to a Bishop from the Church of England, who told me that there were ‘mechanisms’ within the Church of England to expel clergymen.

So why do we have this ‘legalese’ talk in this letter? This mealy mouthed splitting of hairs?

This is NOT an abstract scholastic philosophical question like ‘how many angels can dance on the point of a needle’. That was cutting edge thinking 800 years ago and we’re long past all that. This is about real lives. Real people affected today by abuse in the very recent past.

It matters not that there is no specific law which prohibits a person impersonating a clergyman in the same way as a police officer. Frankly, it is a moot point, as paedophile Guy Bennett can quite legitimately call himself ‘Reverend’ because he is still officially a clergyman with the Anglican Church.

But, even so, there is a law which prohibits someone in a more general sense from misrepresenting themselves, including calling themselves ‘Reverend’ and wearing a dog collar if they might abuse the ‘status’ that it affords.

But again, I say it is moot, irrelevant! Because Guy Bennett is a clergyman in the Church of England. He is NOT misrepresenting himself!

My Story, Bryn Alyn Survivor Dave Harries

Written by @dharries056

My name is David Harries and I am 38 years old and a survivor of child abuse. When I was 5/6 I used to climb out of my bedroom window and run away because of the abuse I was getting off my drunk father. I told my primary teachers of all the nasty things my dad was doing, it was all physical abuse very violent and very cruel/wicked. Social services were aware but never intervened for another three and half years which led me to get more damaged.

Just before my tenth birthday I was given a beating by my father for something I never did. Of course I ran away. The next day being hungry I stole a pack of three Mars bars and I got caught and when the police officer grabbed my arm I winched. Upon getting into the police station the officer made the Sergeant aware of my winching. A doctor looked me over and I had a bruise the the whole of my back. That’s when social services got involved. That’s when I was taken away from my mum.

The weird thing is how the social worker made ‘care’ sound comfortable and safe and creepily inviting. I have never forgot that day Whitney Houston’s track One Moment In Time was on the radio and my mum was broken in floods of tears and my dad never said a word(coward). The social worker took me to Elmfield house in Rochdale. I was put in a big bedroom with a big antique bed in it and I curled up and I fell asleep. Nobody checked to see if I was OK till about half past eight in the morning. Coming out of that room was the scariest moment. Eleven years of age and every single person around me was a stranger. They use to give you a clipper card to get to school and I used mine to go on a bus journey all over Manchester. When I got back I was frog marched into the office. The manager told the member of staff to leave and he belted me right around my head hard then slapped me across my back and bum. The place has been knocked down now plus the night watchman use to be on the girls landing all the time. He use to hit you in the private bits if he caught you out of your room, I can still remember in detail the inside of that place.

The Sun Should Apologise.

I consider myself to have a fairly good sense of humour but this just isn’t funny.

My objection isn’t political, I don’t vote. My objection is that it is just plain nasty, in bad taste, and without any journalistic merit.

Unless The Sun apologise then they have no right to criticise trolling.

25 Years For Ray Teret.

Untitled

Next!

Former radio DJ Ray Teret has been jailed for 25 years for a series of rapes and indecent assaults on girls as young as 12.

Teret, 73, a friend of Jimmy Savile, was last week convicted of seven counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault during the 1960s and 1970s.

Police revealed four further women have said they were abused by the ex-Radio Caroline DJ in the wake of the trial.

Greater Manchester Police are investigating the claims.

Teret – known as Ugly Ray – was mentored by Savile in the early days of his career. His trial was told he followed Savile “around like a shadow”.

Dr Fox Explains The Difference Between Sex Offenders And ‘You And Me’.

Thanks to Darren Laverty for reminding me of this.

The radio DJ Neil Fox has been arrested over three alleged sexual assaults.

It comes two months after he was first arrested following four earlier allegations of sexual assault. He was detained on Monday when he returned to a police station on bail.

The new allegations involve different women. Two relate to events said to have happened in the 1990s, while the third dates from 2007.

Mr Fox said he “strenuously denies” the allegations and was “extremely upset”.

He has been bailed and is due to return to the police station in March 2015.

When Mr Fox was first arrested on 30 September, the Metropolitan Police said four allegations of sexual assault had been made.

What Went On In The UK’s Institutions? (Part 1)

This is an attempt at trying to explain in a very simplistic way why the UK is embroiled in a massive child sexual abuse scandal related to UK institutions. It must be a question that many members of the public are asking as they daily read about sickening revelations in the news.

Two points must be made clear at the outset; 1) I am not an expert. This is just an honest attempt at trying to explain an extremely complex issue and 2) As I’ve said before, the overwhelming majority of people that work in the institutions that I will refer to are not paedophiles. In fact, I think it is a tragedy that many who have dedicated their lives to making children’s lives better are likely to fall under suspicion by association.

To start with we must understand paedophiles themselves. I could attempt to categorise them more accurately into many sub-groups but to simplify it I’m going to categorise them into 3 broad groupings. As with any attempt at categorisation of paedophiles the lines between the categories are ill-defined, there will be crossover between these groups. All are dangerous.

The Opportunist Paedophile

This group are probably responsible for the majority of child sexual abuse in the UK. It is often stated that the majority of child abuse is perpetrated in the home by a relative or friend of the family. Some predatory paedophiles will target families, seeking to gain access to children by  forming a relationship with a parent but the opportunist paedophile does not seek out children to abuse, he simply takes advantage of opportunities that arise when they arise.

The ‘Amateur’ Predatory Paedophile

Apologies for the term ‘amateur’.  This category of offender seeks out children to abuse. He is the kind of offender who will hang around  parks or playgrounds or outside of schools. He might stalk a child or try and coax them into his car. He might try and form relationships with children gaining their trust, grooming them with offers of treats. He is the classic ‘stranger danger’.

About 9 months ago a friend called me concerned about a situation local to her. Children were entering a man’s home unaccompanied. The man kept lots of birds. The children were visiting him because they wanted to look at the birds. The police were informed and the man turned out to have had a previous record for sexual offences against children. Needless to say, local parents were more careful from that point onward.

The ‘Professional’ Predatory Paedophile.

This category of offender not only seeks out children to abuse but also finds occupations and hobbies which give him access to children. It is this group that I want to focus on.

In general, the greatest barrier between a child abuser and his victim is the parent, excepting situations where a parent is themselves an offender. Parents normally have a protective instinct and so ‘professional’ predatory paedophiles infiltrate institutions and organisations where the parent is absent or non-existent. He also wants as much access to the child as he possibly can. Given these two very simple criteria we can form an idea of which occupations a paedophile might target.  By attempting to put in order which occupations predatory paedophiles are attracted to, I am not suggesting that sexual abuse is less serious for the victim in some institutions than others. They are all equally appalling.

In order they are;

1) Foster Care: Not only is there unlimited access to the child but the offender himself takes on the role of guardian. Little has been mentioned about this in the press but I’d expect much more to come out in the future.

2) Residential Children’s Care Homes: Or other similar institutions. In these cases the Local Authority is often the lawful guardian and not an individual with a protective bond with the child. The child, almost by definition, is vulnerable by virtue of the reason why they were put in care. Once again, a predatory paedophile can have almost unlimited access to children.

3) The Catholic Church: The power of this organisation within the Catholic community can not be underestimated. The fact that priests are called ‘Father’ should not be overlooked. It is more than just a symbolic assumption of the role of parent, not only to the children but to the children’s biological parents and the community at large. The requirement of celibacy for priesthood means that paedophiles do not have to explain why they do not have normal adult relationships and the quasi internal canonical legal system which encourages confidential confession of ‘sins’, often criminal offences, can keep incidences of offending away from the secular legal system. Victims can be easily intimidated into remaining silent and there is a strong incentive for the church authorities to cover-up these crimes to try to protect the reputation of the Church. I’ve put the Catholic Church at number 3 but that organisation also organises foster care and residential care for children which I’ve placed at numbers 1 and 2.

It is not that Catholics are more likely to be paedophiles, it is that if a predatory paedophile is a Catholic then entering the priesthood gives them the greatest and, for them, safest access to children. Non-Catholics paedophiles will just find alternative ways.

4) The Boarding School: The parent is not present and access to the child is 24 hours during term time. There might also develop a ‘culture’ of abuse within such an institution which a child might not understand is wrong.

5) The Anglican Church: I’ve put this lower than the Catholic Church as it does not have the same power in the wider community. That said many of the points made above for Catholicism apply also to the Anglican Church. Other organised religions also sit within this group.

6) The Scout Association: This gives regular access to children without parents being present.  Along with Scouting I’ll include other clubs and organisations which cater specifically for children.

7) Non-Residential Schools:  I’ve put this quite low on the list as it is extremely difficult for a member of staff to offend during school time. However, the position of trust that a staff member has can be exploited in after school activities. I’m including Art and Music Schools which offer one to one tuition in this group.

8) Professionals: There is a qualification bar which prevents many predatory paedophiles from becoming doctors, or child psychologists, politicians, the judiciary, or similar professions but when it happens it is very serious. These people often enjoy a status and respect within their community which they then exploit.

9) Celebrity: Celebrity is the hardest status for any individual within society to attain. Celebrities like Jimmy Savile, Ray Teret, Rolf Harris, and Stuart Hall may grab the headlines when their crimes against children become known but I’ve rated this group last. Ironically, they are caught after being identified by their victims for virtually the same reason that they are able to offend in the first place. They are ‘famous’, they are known.  Those that question why celebrities have been arrested but why establishment VIPs have not should think back to when they were 12 years old and ask themselves whether they’d be more likely to identify Jimmy Savile or a Cabinet Minister or a High Court judge.

These are just broad ‘occupations’ which the majority of ‘professional’ predatory paedophiles will seek to infiltrate. I’m sure readers will suggest others. This category of paedophile might not target just one occupation, for example I’m aware of one offender, who I can not name for legal reasons, who is a Catholic priest who helped out in a residential children’s home and who was involved in scouting. That one example should give readers some idea of the single minded determination of predatory paedophiles in their attempts to gain access to children.

Having looked at the institutions that predatory paedophiles will target, I’ll look at the systemic failures within other organisations which were meant to safeguard children and protect them from people like this, in Part 2.

The Scouting Paradigm

scouts

The Scouting Paradigm is just a shorthand way of thinking about how multiple abusers might be able to infiltrate an organisation, it does not only apply to scouting but that was the example that was used by one of the Needleteam when it was proposed about 18 months ago.

I should just say that, as in every institution that predatory paedophiles target like care homes, boarding schools, and the church, the overwhelming majority of adults involved in scouting are not paedophiles.

To begin with there has always been a shortage of adults willing to run and help organise scouting groups, this means that it is easier to become a scout leader than to become a boarding school teacher for example. Once a predatory paedophile has infiltrated a scouting troop he is then able to recruit other predatory paedophiles that he knows of. He will do this for two reasons.

The first reason is that by recruiting a fellow predatory paedophile he will be assured that he will not be informed on by another adult in that closed environment.

The second reason is that if the child were to complain to someone outside of that environment then he can be assured of an alibi. It is hard enough for a child suffering abuse to convince other adults that he is being abused when it is his word against an adult but it is virtually impossible if one or more other adults give the paedophile an alibi.

One of the first jobs of the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse must do is to compel, once the inquiry has been made statutory as I expect it to be, the Scout Association to pass over the  details of every allegation of child abuse that has been made. It must also cross reference  the names of those alleged to have abused in other institutions, the care homes, boarding schools, and the church, as well as all those conviction of a sexual offence against children, with the entire list of adults that have been involved in Scouting.

It might look like a big undertaking but a clear vision of what information the panel need to get their hands on and an intelligent use of modern computer and programming technology will make it far easier than it might first appear. The heavy lifting by the CSA Inquiry will be done by data crunching like this.

In the meantime, the Scout Association should ‘Be Prepared’ for what will certainly be unearthed.

More than 50 people have instructed solicitors over historical abuse claims against the Scout Association since the Jimmy Savile scandal emerged, the BBC has learnt.

The association and individual scoutmasters have also paid £897,000 in damages, lawyers for the claimants say.

One MP urged an inquiry into failures to pass records of abuse to police.

The Scout Association disputed the figures, but said it was “deeply sorry” for anyone hurt by abusers’ actions.

It added the safety of young people was its “number one priority”.

Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn Protected By The UK Justice System

Whilst searching for images of Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn I find this.

Untitled

So, there you go, that is the state of affairs. Gwent police have refused to release an image and it appears as if images online of him have been removed.

It is not enough for the judicial establishment to release an unrepentant child rapist into the community on a very flimsy legal technicality after serving only 2 years, a man who the Judge that released him described as  “a very dangerous offender indeed”.

That isn’t enough.

They have also decided to delete from search engine results images of Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn.

So, if he moves in next door to you, you won’t know.

Who are they supposed to protect, the predatory paedophiles or children ?

Search for yourself.

I’m actually not sure that EU data protection law is supposed to be used by the UK Government and judiciary to censor public access to information. I suspect this use of EU law  is itself illegal’

There is no way that that application to the EU could have been processed that quickly without the complicity of the UK government.

Judge Mental: Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas

Sir-John-Thomas-011

Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas

Despite Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn, 48, being given an indeterminate sentence in 2012 for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl;

Despite already having had a previous conviction for raping a nine-year-old child;

Despite it being recognised that Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn clearly represents a danger to the public being considered “a very dangerous offender indeed”;

Despite the Parole Board describing his conduct in prison as unsatisfactory after he threatened staff and was punished for fighting;

And despite his own lawyers admitting that he had made “no progress whatsoever” in prison and “his failure to engage with the relevant assistance available to him in prison, he has not begun to address his offending.”

Despite all of this, Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas has released him!

Thank you Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas for dumping, what you yourself described as “a very dangerous man”, on the public.

For that Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas you receive The Needle’s ‘Judge Mental’ Award.

A child rapist has been released after the UK’s top judge said it would be “unlawful” to keep him locked up.

Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn, 48, was given an indeterminate sentence in 2012 for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl eight or more years earlier.

He already had a previous conviction for raping a nine-year-old child.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas said at the Court of Appeal that an open-ended sentence could only be passed for offences after April 2005.

“Despite the danger to the public which this applicant clearly represents, we are in no doubt that… The IPP (imprisonment for public protection) was unlawful,” he said.

The court heard Goodwyn was given an indeterminate sentence at Cardiff Crown Court in 2012 after admitting offences against a seven year old girl and being considered “a very dangerous offender indeed” by the judge.

National CSA Epidemic – Graham Wilmer And Others

There could be more than 11 million survivors of sexual abuse in the UK, a Government adviser and CSA Inquiry panel member Graham Wilmer has told Sky News.

Experts say they are now dealing with a “national health epidemic”, while there has been a huge surge in people looking for support since the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Some are related to recent high-profile cases, but sexual abusers are more likely to be people who are already known to the victim.
Graham Wilmer, founder of the Lantern Project on Merseyside,  told Sky News: “There are potentially about 11.7 million victims out there at the moment who have not disclosed, and many of those people will start to come forward in very significant numbers.”

Mr Wilmer,  explained that the figures are based on accepted statistics that suggest one in six boys under the age of 16 have been sexually abused – for girls the figure is one in four.

Victims Of Care Home Sexual Abuse Forced To Have Abortions

This was revealed at the Jersey Inquiry last week but I know, as I’ve heard of other similar cases on mainland UK, that this was a far from unusual practise.

Children made pregnant by care home staff and others were forced to have abortions in local authority regions across the UK.

Young girls were forced to have abortions after being made pregnant by members of staff at a children’s home, an abuse inquiry has heard.

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry is hearing statements and evidence of life at the Haut de la Garenne home.

A witness who was in care at the home said abortions were carried out.

He said it happened several times and claimed they were performed by a nurse when girls became pregnant after being raped by members of staff.

The statement also said the sexual assaults on children by staff were so common, youngsters did not see anything wrong in what was happening at the time.

Police have re-opened their investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse against former Labour MP Lord Janner, Exaro can reveal.

The police investigation had come to a halt in the summer after it was claimed that Janner was suffering from severe dementia and so was too ill to face prosecution.

But two sources close to the investigation  have told Exaro that it has re-started. Officers from Leicestershire Police are re-interviewing witnesses who claim to have been abused as boys by Janner.
