Margaret Hodge’s Son-In-Law To Head Islington Abuse Investigation

Keeping it in the family, Cllr Joe Caluori

Islington Council dismissed calls for Joe Caluori, who is married to Mrs Hodge’s daughter, to step aside from his post while its investigation is ongoing. The council insisted there was no conflict of interest and that the council’s director of social services would report directly to the Department for Education rather than to Mr Caluori.

But victims, lawyers and whistle-blowers are demanding an independent inquiry.

Demetrious Panton, who was repeatedly abused by Bernie Bain, the former head of an Islington children’s home in the late Seventies, said: “An independent police investigation into Islington is crucial. I know so much. Yet, throughout all the 13 inquiries into Islington, I was never once asked to give evidence.”

Mr Panton, who is a lawyer, added: “We still don’t know the full extent of Islington’s corruption. There are a lot of individuals who I know, abuse survivors, who have not yet contacted Islington or the police about what they know. There is a real lack of trust.”

however he feels about his mil there is an obvious conflict of interest .
this situation needs the full glare of publicity

the links between islington and other nodes need full investigation as well as the events in islington

it is no surprise that the survivors have little trust in a system that appears to not want the truth revealed

Margaret Hodge ( oppenheimer ) got elected over the BNP by fraud, the police were furious that she had to get in by vote fraud, when she was childrens minister she kept quiet about hundreds of cases of boys in homes being sexualy abused and even rented out to other homosexuals.
This man should not be in charge of this

Perfect set-up for another under-the-carpet whitewash. Difficult to believe it hasn’t been engineered for just that purpose.

tad bit corrupt but never mind we are British!

If I was a victim of Islington I would take the law into my own hands, thats the only way `they` will get justice.

Sounds like sour grapes(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/election_2010/england/8667345.stm). It would be interesting to know whether a BNP-friendly mindset has anything to do with certain political names being bandied around in connection with the child abuse issue. With zero evidence, of course.

it needed no fraud to win the election it has been a safe labour seat since 1945
it was tom drieburg’s seat a few times .

a bit like the other end of the see saw in finchley

safe seats are highly prized nominations by those who would have their mps in westminster whichever party always wins

re people exposing or slandering political opponents it happens but glass houses etc.

How can Islington Council allow any member of Margaret Hodge family to be involved in any investigation into child abuse in Islington during the period when Margaret Hodge was a member of and leading the council?

Its possible that its the usual arrogant head in cloud thinking of officialdom but frankly? It reeks…..

As has been said here many times, the ‘Keep it in the Family’ attitude is not limited to Labour, not even to politicians. Any organisation with a reputation to keep will not want the truth to get out. Far easier to move the perpetrator along and make them someone else’s problem.

having had a quick look at a few “nationalist” websites and blogs the theme of hating each other as much as hating the other seems fairly universal.
the grasp of history and real politic is often weak and evidence seems to play little part in the arguments.

the far right seem more like a row of aunt sallys to distract the far left than a coherent political force of well meaning folk who have a vision of a happy future that they seek to create.

how the mindset expressed in the blogs and websites might assist in exposing the truth of matters in hand escapes me but if it might provide useful data it should not be discounted as of potential value.

I think the “far right” is the turn you take when you get lost in between the pub and the bookies…
