Has Derek Laud Been Unfriended ?

I only ask because his Wikipedia page has been edited.

On the 26th October I posted a tweet of his, here, and I copied and pasted directly from his Wikipedia page.

It used to read in the opening paragraph:

Laud is a long standing family friend of Samantha Cameron’s family and a personal friend of David Cameron and attended their wedding at Ginge, in Oxfordshire. He has a wide circle of friends in the celebrity, political and business communities.

But not anymore……….

It used to read under ‘Personal life’:

Laud has a wide circle of friends in the Conservative Party. The list of Tory friends with whom he is known to go on holiday and socialise with is illustrious, and includes Lord McAlpine, Peter Lilley and Michael Portillo.

But alas no longer.

I’m just curious. I wonder if a reader of this is also a Wikipedia editor and can find out when this was changed and by whom ?

  1. chuckle,. well Ian Greer, we tracked him down to Helderberg Street Peoples Canter http://www.groundup.org.za/content/poor-versus-business-somerset-west has an article on his ‘plight’,.

I called folks in the area and mailed them pics of Greer the ‘lobbyist’ from the late 80’s i could find on ze net,. dang shebang it’s him,.

The critter, hey, i even have, chuckle, the number of the ‘priest’ he works with on the project,. Rev Tim Hawkridge of United Church

Apparently Greer touts himself in the community as ‘Reverend’ Greer, really plays a good game of double speak and will literally even get up and walk, fan dangle, right out of meetings in progress as he is done flaffing with these pithy folks,.. R40k a month i hear he gets for overseeing the Street Peoples Center, which in ZAR is fairly good spending money,. The boys get well looked after i see,..

Well, lets hope if everyone does a little we can rinse these orifice hagging crones out of the system for good,.

Edward Heath’s entry in the Wiki has been ‘got at’ recently as well. Someone’s cleaned up the messy, ugly truth and he’s back to being an exemplary character once more….

    Will do, gojam.

Do you need the images spliced together or kept seperate and also, would you like me to cut the edges for enhanced formatting purposes? What’s the maximum width of an image for your Blog?

Hopefully my second post above providing a page link and interesting info about the changes and Laud’s threat against Kegg with libel also helps.

Note it was yesterday’s date, so is very current. We need to grab this stuff before it also disappears.

    “Information disputed by subject

I’ve removed reliably sourced information disputed by the subject in a twitter conversation.[1][2] Gareth E Kegg (talk) 09:30, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Reverted, the information removed is properly sourced and relevant, and Laud has described himself as a member of the Club in an article which he wrote for the Daily Mail. Rangoon11 (talk) 20:30, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Should add that Laud himself, of course, has a COI in terms of this article. If he has issues with the contents of this article then he is welcome to come to this page and discuss them, but he will need to provide reliable sources in the usual manner.Rangoon11 (talk) 20:43, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
It’s our responsibility as editors to get the article right – see WP:BLP – whether the subject himself shows up on the talk page to discuss it or not. It is not the purpose of Wikipedia to force subjects to become editors. –Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:28, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
No but nor should we be taking instructions from the subject themself on what the article should or should not include. If they take issue with the contents then there are routes available for them, but properly sourced material should not be removed following comments made by the subject on Twitter. Rangoon11 (talk) 23:52, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Laud is now threatening me with legal action on twitter. I have strated a discussion at ANI. [3] Gareth E Kegg (talk) 08:48, 30 November 2012 (UTC)”

If you check G Kegg’s Twitter page, there are loads of online discussions between him and the man in question. Specifically dealing with amendments to his WP entries. If anyone wants a screenshot, let me know.

  9. no name

The wiki was cleaned by a Wikipedia user who has taken interested in other Tory causes, such as James Delingpole. That’s all we know but let’s assume the Tory faithful are out to distance themselves from Laud.

Also note an unusual Wikipedia edit on Laud’s page made on 16:38, 4 November 2012‎ that has been totally erased from the Wikipedia servers. A highly-unusual step from the free speech champions at Wikipedia.

But the important stuff is still there. Kind of. Michael Colvin MP was a business associate of Laud and died in a suspicious house fire in 2000. Google news reports of this fire, it’s still a mystery.

Rumours are that Colvin had links to a south coast crime syndicate involved in all sorts, from pimping and rent boys to drugs and illegal pornography. Colvin’s speciality was guns. (apologies for edit.)

Gareth E Kegg appears to be the main editor here. But there doesn’t seem to be a discussion about the removal of the Samantha Cameron connection … was this done by Kegg?

    • Unfortunately, I don’t tweet.

Anyone want to ask him ? – https://twitter.com/garethetc

        An ‘alternative’ viewpoint on Wikipedia.
It is fascinating to examine which notables bios within Wiki have been subject to wholesale edit and amendment – particularly since the time that Savile revelations began to see the light of day.
I note that Cyril Smith is just one of the entries which has received lots of attention. There are many others – including ‘names’ which have not as yet been at the forefront of speculation.
I wonder if this tells us something – or could it be just be coincidence?

Updated via BT connection in Keighley, West Yorks it would seem, if any interest ;)

  13. The wording below between the quotation marks is the ‘original’ entry I sent myself a link to on 4/11/12
“Laud is a long standing family friend of Samantha Cameron’s family and a personal friend of David Cameron and attended their wedding at Ginge, in Oxfordshire. He has a wide circle of friends in the celebrity, political and business communities.

During his career, Laud has contributed to speeches for several well-known Conservatives, including Margaret Thatcher………..

……………….Laud has a wide circle of friends in the Conservative Party. The list of Tory friends with whom he is known to go on holiday and socialise with is illustrious, and includes Lord McAlpine, Peter Lilley and Michael Portillo……

……. In 2001, he provided an alibi for his friends Neil and Christine Hamilton when they were falsely accused by Nadine Milroy-Sloan of sexual assault.”
    End of quotation

Oddly, I cannot find any reference to, “Laud is a long standing family friend of Samantha Cameron’s family and a personal friend of David Cameron and attended their wedding at Ginge, in Oxfordshire. He has a wide circle of friends in the celebrity, political and business communities.” in any previous revisions of the article. It’s like those words never existed……… Spooksy or what?

However, “The list of Tory friends with whom he is known to go on holiday and socialise with is illustrious, and includes Lord McAlpine, Peter Lilley and Michael Portillo.” was removed on 17:10, 4 November 2012 by someone whose IP address was at the time: 86.151.12.165

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Derek_Laud&oldid=521379749
Under Bryn Estyn Boys’ Home connection:

The reason cited was, “You’d need both a source for the association, plus evidence that it is notable–86.151.12.165 (talk) 17:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)”

A search into the IP address shows that it is a braodband dynamic IP belong to British Telecommunications originating in Leeds. Not much use there ….

Perhaps a registered Wikipedia editor might have more info?

    • You are a star ‘T’ !

      Much appreciated.

You’re not an editor yourself ? Maybe one of those clever digitalspy elves………….? ;-)

The first passage has been quoted widely.

Glad to be of help ;o)

Not an editor, though I have been published in some off-mainstream publications. Thinking about starting a blog in 2013 as part of a New Year’s resolution.

Not sure about being one of those elves but I do like to delve into establishment inconsistencies ;oP

Best of luck in cracking this nut – I fear caretakers are running around frantically sanitising potential leads.

        Kindest regards,

      • If you have an article you want to publish in the meantime, email it to me.
        No attachments.

If you are correct about the caretakers, it is still interesting to note what exactly they feel needs to be sanitised and why.
