Op Yewtree: Paul Gambaccini Arrested

images (1)

As I made clear earlier today, not all Operation Yewtree arrests involve the abuse of children and I’ve been told that friends close to Mr Gambaccini insist it is not the case this time. I’ve also been told that it relates to the 1970s but I have no way of verifying that.

So please bear all of that in mind.

I know of at least 3 previous Op Yewtree arrests that did not involve minors who social media incorrectly maligned as paedophiles, two of those had the charges later dropped.

So, be careful what you say.

To be honest, I’ve been hearing about a media scrum outside of his home in the South Bank, London all day.

Re Operation Yew Tree, the recent arrest of BBC presenter, Paul Gambaccini and contributor ‘Outoftheloop’s final comment: To echo a statement from a barrister on television, recently; a person accused of committing a crime is innocent UNLESS proven guilty. The word ‘until’ would imply that being found guilty is merely a matter of time.

How do you know that he *didn’t* write an anonymous letter? And also the consensus seems to be that whatever he’s had his collar felt for it has nothing to do with anything under-aged. Furthermore I didn’t even know Jimmy Savile apart from seeing him on tv and *I* found him frightening and creepy, so… don’t underestimate the power of intimidation? If nobody else is coming forward and going on the record it takes a very very brave person – perhaps with nothing to lose – to step up and point the finger. Everybody seems to have known a bit of what was going on but nobody seems to have guessed quite *how* extensive it was. And fear is a very effective deterrent. Whether of quite-likely possible physical retaliation by “friends” or career-suicide and disgrace/ruin if sued by Savile. Takes a lot to be the first one to break cover… Not excusing it, but anyone who’s been psychologically bullied or manipulated by a psychopath (which I think Savile probably was) would know how hard it is to be “brave” and stand up to them…

That said, if only *somebody* HAD decided to risk it and taken him on when he was still alive. I bet that Savile was expecting it all to end at any time. He’d had his fun and he had zero remorse. I bet even in prison he’d still be putting on his “King Jimmy” act. On his tombstone he had “It was good while it lasted” inscribed as his epitaph ffs… He had the last laugh, the bastard… :(

I don’t buy Gambaccini as some kind of sex-abuser. I might be wrong. But he always struck me as a fundamentally decent and nice guy. Yewtree does seem a bit out of control now. Innocent until proven guilty.

  3. Do not be fooled into thinking that Savile does not still have friends alive in high places eeking out selective punishment to ‘squealers’. If I’d have worked at the BBC in the 70’s and knew about Savile’s secrets, I’d be very afraid to speak out unless required to do so by law. This guy had the establishment in his pockets and God only knows what dirt he took with him to his grave that could still wreak havoc among the living ‘members’ from his ‘club’. The Savile Mafia is still very much alive to protect themselves and punish those who pose a threat. From my own experiences in the music business in the 80’s & 90’s, it was always bandied about that you did not dare cross swords with Jimmy Savile, even though he’d passed his sell-by date in the industry.

Takes nothing to write an anonymous letter asking that Savile be investigated. Paul could and should have done this in my opinion and if I had children I would want adults to be on the lookout for mine and I would do the same for theirs. I would find a way to raise the concern, even if I were at the BBC at the time. I can’t believe anyone can use this Savile influence nonsense to justify or defend the man’s silence while the weakest of the weak are being molested by a pervert. And in response to the person who called my previous comment wicked, the reference to “cluelessness” was to the fact that his partner surely can’t have known he might have been involved in sexual abuses prior to getting involved. Also, I have no concern with a 10 year age gap or a gay partnership either. My point was that this is a 40 year gap or thereabouts and it just looks like the fella likes them a lot younger than himself which makes me wonder if at the time his preference was for young boys/girls too. If anyone can’t win in today’s society it’s a person who raises an opinion about a subject that happens to involve a homosexual – everyone immediately takes the stance that he is gay-bashing; age-discriminating or being a right wing fascist of some sort. Anyway, we don’t know anything yet, so apart from knowing that he did nothing to save those poor mentally ill children we just have to wait and see what happens at trial if there is a case to answer. I wonder who pressed charges or made the allegations. Good on them if they have grounds.

Gambacini did help police into investigations into Savile, the understanding was that he would then be left alone but so ubiquitious are the allegations going way back, that the police had to arrest him, i know nothing personally other than police chit-chat but it does seem that boys are pointing the finger at him

It is really unfair to name theses celebrities before they are proven guilty and has a real detrimental emotional and damaging effect on their careers and tarnishes the successful they once had. No one should judge without fully knowing the facts and I believe Paul Gambaccini is another victim of this witch hunt

Hope Esther Rantzen gets arrested for allegations of historical two faced insincerity, egotism and being completely unsuitable for running Childline.

Mr Gambaccini I hope you prove your innocence always a true professional and gentleman I am not convinced about this fabrication

Based on jack nothing? Lists to his interview with news international and you might accept he was closer to the dirt than you might want to believe. He knew what Saville was doing to girls in mental homes but did nothing. Now that smells of being spineless and ruthlessly protecting his career at the expense of children or he may be complicit in Saville’s pass times. We know now that he is definitely a coward though. Any decent human being would have spoken up, even written an anonymous letter to tip off the police or child protection services. No matter which way you turn it the guy is one spineless self righteous tossed. One by one may they drop dead.

GO-JAM > I know of at least 3 previous Op Yewtree arrests that did not involve minors who social media incorrectly maligned as paedophiles, two of those had the charges later dropped.

are you suggesting you knew the names of these 3 people if so who were they you have my email address

    • It’s not a state secret.

I won’t name the two that were cleared because it’s unfair to them but the other is DLT.

And how is he going to prove his innocence when between 30/40 years have elapsed. I don’t know how it works with high profile cases, police/cps are probably more careful as there will be greater scrutiny. ( Not that it stopped them prosecuting MIchael Le Vell)

But I do know how it works for the man in the street. Police are interested in meeting targets, not truth. They will ask you at interview about a particular date or time, if you are able to give an alibi or explanation to negate the allegation there is a high probability that they will return to the complainant and they can then alter their statement. Never, ever talk to the police without legal representation.

I am totally shocked! I’m not really convinced about this latest arrest, it doesn’t ring true somehow.

    • MrPrinciples

It doesn’t? He married a clueless young boy. Had the young boy been a girl with the same age difference we would be a little creeped out but because it’s a gay marriage, we must blindly moved along and assumed it wasn’t odd not to upset the political correctness police. Now, a marriage between adults is fine, despite the bizarre age gap but wind the clock back and think: if Gambo is into 20-something year olds now at 64, what age group was he into in the 70s and 80s and why didn’t he speak up about Saville earlier with all the time he had to do so. It doesn’t add up. He is a smart man and if I wanted to make an accusation look like fabrication I would also be running around accusing the police of bribery publicly so it would look like the arrest and charges were a form of police retaliation. I don’t buy it, but innocent (on bail) until January. Hopefully he doesn’t top himself though, I do want to get to the bottom of it.

  10. john carey

I hope they throw the book at him! saying things like that about Sir Jimmy Saville who did so much for charity etc etc etc

  11. This is a strange one, as I know Mr Gambaccni’s particular tastes. This could be interesting as it might be in part, down to his very vocal attacks on Savile and might be signs of some sort of attempt to “warn off”, any others thinking of going very public about what they heard and knew back in the day. The other scenario could be that , they have decided that, he knows “facts” that need to be told under caution and maybe they felt he wasn’t coming forward enough and speaking to them directly. I am thinking of the “tea shop” and I strongly suspect, he can name names and give specific details including dates and times.

Given what I’ve heard about a certain venue, I am surprised he hasn’t been at least questioned under caution before now. If that’s the case, then there are a couple of rather well known people who will expecting a knock on the door some time soon.

    • As always you make some good points.

You want to email me and fill me in on this ?

    • Do you mean Waltham Hop disco?

    • MrPrinciples

Look at his marriage to a very young boy. Certainly this does not make him guilty yet but it may shed light on his “preferences” as another poster put it. In any event I am pleased he is being questioned after admitting he knew what Saville was up to and did nothing about it while at the same time accusing our forces of accepting Saville’s bribes. In some countries there is a legal duty to report crimes and I think it should be a duty of every adult to report crimes against children. He claimed in an interview that he was too junior to make a difference and tip off the authorities about Saville. This is a pathetic sign of cowardice. Aged 13 I reported a teacher for inappropriately groping girls in my school. I took the heat for the greater good of intimidated children but I guess I didn’t have a career on the line and a pretty apartment to protect. Shame on you Gambo if you are proven guilty.
