Westminster Confidential

The anmesia among politicians about  the child sexual abuse scandal in Richmond Council is looking less and less credible by the day. Now Terry Earland, the former assistant director of children’s services at Richmond, has told my colleague Mark Conrad that he held regular briefings with Jenny Tonge, Liberal social services chair and her deputy at the time – now believed to be dead- about child abuse problems. In article in Exaro News( http://bit.ly/WQQz7M) where Mr Earland gives a long interview. He makes it is absolutely clear that he briefed both senior politicians and officials in the social services department about the issue.

Earland was aware of the scandal at Grafton Close and Elm Guest House. He says he may not have specified Elm Guest House to Jenny Tonge but it is clear that he did report to her and her deputy on a regular basis on child care issue.

Bob I can totally appreciate why you are so interested in the Gabb diaries, but even if they still exist I doubt they would stand up as evidence given that the diary was the record of a convicted rapist taking down the accounts of prolific paedophiles, any defence brief would easily discredit such testimony. The Gabb diaries mentioned as many as 20 boys were killed by this ring , which maybe an exaggeration, only three were confirmed.
I don’t think any of these VIP’s will have even broken sweat over this. As Andrea Davison said, “you can always count on their arrogance .” It is extremely galling and is there the political will to open up the met files ? Of course not, they want it to stay buried.

  2. @david so why was riff pilchard there?

Bob, Cooke boasted to Gabb 1990 – 1992 during Op Orchid. Regarding finding out about the Gabb notebooks I’m not very hopeful, isn’t FOI for public documents ? Will try and find out.

      • @cantankerous so is it around same time or after the VIP thing , also can one cite public interest on this and yes the DWP interpretation of public interest is make it up as they go alongbut i am using them as am example..

  3. @david the spartacus club member special offer gave it away that it was a paedo brothel..

    • bob, There was a suggestion that some of the names on the famous list were there lawfully – joining their gays brothers for reasons within the law. The paedophile activity was extraneous and beneath the surface.
Spotlight is now saying that parties for gays never existed at Elm guest House, it was always a meeting place for paedophile activity – this is new to me, and very important development.

      • @david yes of course it also mean that maggie thatcher knew about it..as a MI5 bod was there and any cabinet members could be blackmailed by a foregn govt which mean defence of the realm security issue..

  4. Interestingly “Spotlight” in a commentary yesterday said that Elm Guest House was never a gay meeting place. When it stopped being a normal business and became something other, that something other was a place for paedophiles – no lawful reason to attend Elm Guest House parties.

Maybe Jenny Tonge doesn’t remember anything, because of this:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1469062/Lib-Dem-MPs-daughter-killed-by-electric-shock.html

It’s curious how many MP’s who either have poor memories, or appear to act in an abnormal, irrational way when dealing with child abuse issues, have experienced the loss of a child.

    • @ww that is too weird and too worrying as welll we arent going to say she was bumped off are we?

    • sorry the daughrte was killed ok my bad reading sorry..

Bob I have watched the lost boys documentary again and there is no mention of surveillance, I got that from the spotlight site. (what an amazing resource that site is in such a short space of time.)
“A former detective who worked on the original investigation into Cooke told the Sunday Mirror that the minister was among those alleged to have been photographed in a 1986 police surveillance on premises where boys had been dropped off. Others allegedly included Jimmy Savile, MP Cyril Smith and top judges – though none of them were ever arrested.”

Operation Orchid only started after the Swift trial, I don’t know how realistic it would be to make a FOI request regarding police evidence ?

  6. Mass twitter protest-

Using Leonard Cohen’s song ‘Everybody Knows’ as an anthem Madlands is promoting a grassroots tweetathon #paedobritain Day

Hopefully Madlands will be back on twitter very soon he seems to be having a break. He is missed

  7. he was boasting gojam !!! a guy like that would edfinetly mention who he knew..

    • I was thinking about this.

“The name of the pop star was first handed to police in 2008 when a convicted sex offender claimed he was part of a paedophile ring with Savile.

The paedo was in Whitemoor Prison, Cambs, at the time and passed a list of other child sex offenders to his probation officer. It is understood the list was handed to police but there was not enough evidence for them to act.

Now his name has come up again, he is being “actively investigated”, according to sources close to the inquiry.”

The prisoner Gabb who collected the evidence Bob is talking about, shared cells with Cooke, Bailey and Oliver between 1990 and 1992. The information was collected for Op Orchid police but was considered insufficient to charge Oliver or Cooke. Why? Did they name prominent people ? Why did Cooke and Oliver get their sentences reduced for the Jason Swift murder ?

      • @cantekerous thank you that exactly my point.. leslie bailey was strangled too.. (silence him??) now then could one put in a FOI request to the home office and ask what was in the gabb notebook and what happened to it…any one up for that?

      • @canterkeorus when was the allegations and observations about cooke links to VIPs happen with regard to islington? i think?

  8. Tom Austin

    Oh, this guy
“Sidney Cooke is regarded as a dangerous and predatory paedophile who even at the age of 84 remains a constant threat to youngsters. He has been given two life sentences for a catalogue of crimes involving the systematic rape and abuse of two brothers over several years. But these horrific admissions are just one of a series of depraved acts the persistent offender has committed during the past three decades. In his job as a fairground worker, Cooke was able to travel the country preying on vulnerable youngsters.Known by colleagues as Hissing Sid, he set up his children’s ‘Test Your Strength’ machine at fairgrounds around the country using the opportunity to meet boys and lure them into depraved homosexual orgies. With his sick friends Robert Oliver, Lennie Smith and Leslie Bailey, he would drug the children before subjecting them to brutal assaults.Cooke, who habitually dressed in a filthy suit and trilby hat, was one of a 1980s gang suspected of being responsible for the killing of up to nine young boys during sex orgies.Operating from a flat on the Kingsmead estate in Hackney, east London, the gang hired rent boys or snatched children off the streets and subjected them to horrific sexual torture.”
