Police investigate allegations of historic sexual abuse at school in Goring

 Police are investigating claims of historic sexual abuse at now-closed Goring Hall School, West Sussex during the mid-1970’s.

Allegations were recently received for the first time from three men who were pupils at the school, which closed in 1988.

Detective Constable Natalie Freeman said; “We would like to hear from anyone else who has been personally affected whilst at the school, or who knows any family or friends who have been affected by this, or from anyone who has any information that may assist our investigation. You can contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101 Sussex, quoting serial 762 of 06/06.

“All information will be treated in confidence and we can assist in confidential referrals to sources of counselling and other support if necessary.”

A 69-year old man from Derbyshire has been arrested on suspicion of several indecent assaults on the three boys. He is currently on police bail until 8 July while enquiries continue.

During the period relating to the allegations, Goring Hall was a boarding school which closed in 1988. The site is now a Hospital which has no connection with these allegations. There are no current safeguarding issues.

Goring Hall boarding school abuse inquiry leads to arrest

A man has been arrested on suspicion of indecently assaulting three boys at a former boarding school in West Sussex.

Three men who were pupils at Goring Hall School, in Goring-by-Sea, during the mid-1970s made the allegations to Sussex Police which sparked an inquiry.

The man, aged 69 and from Derbyshire, has been released on police bail until 8 July.

The school closed in 1988 and the site is now a hospital, which is not connected with the allegations.

Det Con Natalie Freeman said anyone else “personally affected whilst at the school”, or who knew any family or friends affected, should contact police.
