A BOSHAM paedophile has been jailed for 13 years after abusing boys as young as ten in the 1980s.
Jonathan O’Brien, 56, of Fairfield Road, was sentenced this morning (May 20) at Chichester Crown Court.
A packed-out public gallery watched O’Brien’s sentencing for 15 counts of indecent assault on children aged between ten and 15.
A number of his victims were at the court today.
One of them said in a victim impact statement: “I can’t quantify exactly what impact this has had on me and therein lies the tragedy.
“How would I be if this hadn’t happened? Would I be more successful, more patient, more passionate? I don’t know, which is sad.”
A FORMER teacher from Bosham who carried out sex attacks on boarding school pupils has been found guilty of a catalogue of historic offences.
Jonathan O’Brien, 55, used his charm and good looks to attract his victims, making them believe he was ‘sharing a secret’ with them rather than ‘forcing something on them’, Chichester Crown Court was told.
The four-week trial heard that O’Brien was a ‘charming, convivial and attractive man outside of the school environment’ and would ‘easily dazzle those he met’.
The ex-teacher, of Fairfield Road, was found guilty of five counts of gross indecency and 15 counts of indecent assault.
He was cleared of two other indecent assaults.
Twelve offences were on seven boys at Winterfold House School near Kidderminster, Worcestershire, in the early 1980s.
The others were against three pupils at The Oratory School near Reading in the mid to late 1980s.
