Tony Brunskill’s jail term increased for child sex offences
An ex district councillor from Cumbria jailed for child sex offences has had his sentence increased from 10 to 14 years after admitting further charges.
Tony Brunskill, 66, was jailed in July after pleading guilty to a series of sexual offences involving three boys.
In February at Preston Crown Court, he admitted five charges of indecent assault and one serious sexual offence against another boy.
Judge Paul Batty described him as “highly manipulative”.
Brunskill, who was a former chairman of Eden District Council, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court.
In 2011, Brunskill admitted nine indecent assaults on a boy aged 13 or above, and seven counts of sexual activity with a child under 16.
He also pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault against a third boy.
The indecent assaults took place while he was working at a school in Lancashire in the 1970s.
The sexual activity charges, which also included meeting a child for the purpose of sexual grooming, related to a Cumbrian boy and took place between 2008 and 2010.
The latest charges related to when he was at the Lancashire school.
Lancashire Police said Brunskill’s latest victim had come forward after hearing about his other crimes.
‘Bought victim presents’
Det Con Steve Montgomery, of Wyre CID, said: “Brunskill took advantage of his professional position to target his victim, who was vulnerable not just because of his age but because he was away from his family.
“Brunskill bought his victim presents and took him for driving, flying and shooting lessons – all of which he used to groom the youngster before carrying out his attacks.
“It took a great deal of courage for Brunskill’s victim to come forward, having learnt of his other offences following his conviction and subsequent prison sentence.
“The additional years that Brunskill has been given behind bars means that a dangerous sexual predator is off our streets for even longer.”
A former Fylde coast teacher was found dead just days before he was due to stand trial accused of sexually assaulting three boys.
Roy Ball, 80, taught at Rossall School during the 1970s, when the offences are said to have taken place.
He was due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court yesterday, on charges of sexual assault and 14 offences of possessing indecent images.
Mr Ball was arrested 12 months ago following a year-long investigation by detectives in Fleetwood.
His alleged victims were aged between eight and 12 and were said to have been assaulted over a four-year period from 1973.

FORMER Eden Council chairman Tony Brunskill has appeared in court accused of committing a series of sex attacks on a pupil.
Brunskill, who taught English at Rossall School, near Fleetwood, Lancashire, faces six offences of historical sexual abuse.
The 66-year-old, formerly of Salkeld Dykes, Penrith, faces five charges of indecent assault and one charge of a sex assault on a boy aged 11 to 12 between 1979 and 1981 at Fleetwood.
Brunskill, a former international rally car driver who founded his own PR company after leaving Rossall School, appeared before magistrates on Friday via a video link from Wakefield Prison.
Prosecutor Tracy Yates’s application that the case go straight to Crown court was not opposed by defence lawyer Kevin Bamber.
Blackpool magistrates sent the case direct to Preston Crown Court.
Brunskill was remanded in custody to the higher court on February 2.
