I can confirm that South Wales Police have launched a criminal investigation into the actions of North Wales Police during the investigations into child abuse in the late 1980’s early 1990’s. Serving and non serving officers are under scrutiny. In addition they will investigate the potential criminal activities of a number of senior council officials who ruled the roost at Gwynedd county council/social services. It’s been estimated to take a minimum of 6 months.

afaik many of the bryn alyn/bryn estyn and associated care home records were in that facility .
the timing is between waterhouse being set up and waterhouse deciding what records it might wish to see .
spontaneous is possible if folk are careless with things such as damp hay,warm wood dust ,oily rags etc etc.
to conveniently destroy that many boxes of potentially informative and tightly packed paper when it suddenly seemed to be important might require a bit of planning before and after the event .
im not an expert on commercial premises fires and have no personal knowledge of the details of this one but i dont remember many storage facilities spontaneously combusting ,the folk who own and manage them usually try quite hard to avoid such events.
if i am correct in thinking that those the records were there it seems a very good idea to have a very close look at the circumstances of this fire .
thanks gw for finding the lost in care reference ,i remembered the basics but not that detail.
the destruction of these records has obstructed every subsequent investigation of that group of “care homes”and i suspect also to other investigations especially relating to the places the kids came from and/or were sent to.
imho the cause of fire and investigations into it deserve close scrutiny and imho could be considered to fall within the brief of this investigation.

Is that an official cause of fire that the fire brigade use ? What load of rubbish.

gojam: The spontaneous combustion refers to the nearby houses catching fire from the intense heat, not the storage facility itself, which has no stated cause.

good .i hope south wales police leave no stone unturned.
having heard a few stories from north wales i recon they could be rather busy regarding the behavior of some officers as well as the systemic lack of police action to address the situation.

same as norfolk kings lynn police in the year 2000 who allowed the russian mafia to build 120 brothels in the general area, and allowed ‘boy-nobbing’ parties at west lynn childrens home. From what we were told at the time Kings Lynn police were investigated by cambridge norwich and especially lowestoft police.
One police sergeant peter thompson was demoted for harrassing women, and for undisclosed charges involved kids at portland st youth club which was on his beat, his brother michael thompson was manager at the local postal delivery office, and was implicated in harassing women postal workers for sex. the investigation also covered racial as well as sexual harassment
one policeman barry richards went to prison on faked up charges for whistleblowing
