Oh very sad news. I was present many a night when Acker played at Humph’s Oxford Street in the 1950’s and saw him perform last a couple of years back in a triple bill with Chris Barber and Kenny Ball alas also departed at the side arena at the Dome, travelling to London especially for the event
I an writing this listening to an original 10 inch long play featuring Travelling Blues, Delia Gone, Gladiola Rag Willy the Weeper, Dardenella Franklin Street Blues Ester Parade and Marching Through Georgia Mortimer, Price Sims Hawkins and McKay formed the rest of the band. Their style then was in spirit of the Crescent City Pioneers, breaking away from the traditionalist purist Ken Colyer who in turn had broken away from Cy Laurie whose haunt was my most regular between the ages of 16 and 18 across the way from the Windmill Theatre in days before the Street offences Act came into force.!
