Convicted of 36 offences against 16 children only last May and sentenced to 10 years, Gordon Rideout is seeking early release on ‘compassionate grounds.’

Former Anglican priest Gordon Rideout

An Anglican priest jailed for sexually abusing young children has applied to be released from prison on compassionate grounds.

Canon Gordon Rideout, 74, from East Sussex, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in May after being found guilty of 36 separate sex offences.

The priest committed the offences against 16 children between 1962 and 1973 in Hampshire and Sussex.

One of his victims said she and her family were in “a state of disbelief”.

Why does he think he deserves this? Did he show compassion? Did he show mercy? Or was he just caught and wants to play the poor sinner card.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.”
“They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. … Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
“For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” … God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.”

Oh, a bit uncomfortable in pokey, I guess. I would show him the same kind of compassion that he showed his victims.
